Packing Tips
Choose strong boxes that are clean and with closure that fully come together in the middle. To save money you can opt for grocery boxes, but be cautious with fruit boxes as they can sometimes harbour insects, some of which my infest your belongings and your new home.
Use newspapers on things that can be easily washed or wiped. They are best for use with kitchen items as the ink can rub off and make everything black and dirty. Create a plan starting at the most a few months prior to your move, including work areas, special arrangements and rooms to be packed up. Create an inventory sheet in your notebook with columns for room names, room numbers, box numbers, comments, content descriptions and special instructions.
Separate the things to be kept and the things to be thrown out. Sell what you can, donate other things and only throw away things that can no longer be reused. Fill all boxes to the top and fill in empty space with packing filler or stuffers.
Do not exceed 50kg per box as under occupational health and safety regulations, the removalists are not allowed to lift anything heavier. They will ask you to repack it if it is too heavy. Fill larger boxes with soft and light things. Fill small boxes with books and heavy things.
Moving house requires organization and determination. By knowing which packing materials to get and what to use them for, you can save yourself valuable time when beginning the packing process.
Packing is not rocket science, but if you follow the tips above you can be assured of peace of mind when your movers transport your things to your new home.
